Help Safeguard the Earth

Litigation

NRDC helped pass our nation’s bedrock environmental laws, like the Clean Air Act and Clean Water Act, and our seasoned attorneys have argued all the way to the Supreme Court to ensure those laws are enforced and polluters are held accountable. We take on the world’s most powerful corporations and win.

Why NRDC?

Who We Are

Founded in 1970, NRDC combines the expertise of some 700 scientists, lawyers, and advocates with the power of more than 3 million members and online activists to confront our planet's most pressing problems.

We believe all people deserve the right to clean air, clean water, and healthy communities.

HOW WE WORK

HOW WE WORK

Advocacy

NRDC’s advocates work at every level, from city halls to to the halls of Congress. We harness the grassroots power of millions of citizen activists to urge elected officials to protect the American public, not polluters.

HOW WE WORK

Science

Our advocacy is firmly grounded in meticulous research and sound scientific principles. Our experts use the best science available to examine critical environmental challenges and identify the most effective fact-based solutions.

What Can You Do?

Support our work on the frontlines — waging fierce courtroom battles and hard-hitting campaigns in defense of our climate, public health, wildlife, and wild places. Help us protect our earth and its natural systems. Our lives depend upon it.

The Natural Resources Defense Council is a top rated, not-for-profit, tax-exempt membership 501(c)(3) organization.

The New York Times calls us "One of the nation's most powerful environmental groups." The National Journal says we're "A credible and forceful advocate for stringent environmental protection."

NRDC is tackling the climate crisis at its source: Pollution from fossil fuels. We work to reduce our dependence on climate-wrecking dirty fuels by expanding clean energy in the U.S. and around the world. NRDC is a leading voice on climate policy at the city, state, national, and global levels.

Our advocacy to get rid of toxic chemicals in our environment — the air we breathe, the food we eat, the water we drink, and the products we buy — helps protect the health of millions of people. We fight for environmental justice so that BIPOC and low-income communities will no longer be disproportionately affected by the impacts of industrial pollution and climate change.

We protect wildlife and lands from the threats of industrial development, commercial exploitation, pollution, and climate change. We partner with ranchers, farmers, energy companies, and the government to promote solutions that help wild predators coexist with livestock and people.

The Wild

We’ve sued corporate polluters, local governments, and every administration since 1970. Right now, we’re fighting to put Arctic wildlife habitats off-limits to drilling, block attacks on climate action and clean energy, stop destructive industrial projects from being built in sensitive habitats, and safeguard protections for national monuments. We know how to use the courts to uphold the law and we will do it when necessary — no matter who is president. And when we do — we win.
